As Amazon marks the sixth anniversary of Alexa’s presence in India, the company revealed a remarkable surge in Alexa-connected smart home devices, signaling a significant shift in the country’s smart home landscape. Over the past three years, there has been a staggering 200% increase in the adoption of Alexa-connected smart home gadgets across India.
Expanding Smart Home Ecosystem
In tandem with the exponential growth in connected devices, Amazon highlighted a 100% rise in requests to Alexa for controlling various smart home appliances. These include smart lights, plugs, fans, TVs, security cameras, air conditioners, water heaters, and air purifiers, reflecting the expanding scope of smart home integration in Indian households.
“Since the introduction of Alexa and Echo smart speakers in India, the smart home sector has witnessed significant evolution, with voice technology playing a pivotal role,” remarked Parag Gupta, Director and Country Manager, Amazon Devices, India. Gupta emphasized the ease of setting up a smart home environment, attributing the surge in adoption to the simplicity of integrating compatible smart devices with Alexa. He underscored that more consumers are realizing the accessibility of smart home technology, dispelling misconceptions about its complexity.
Evolution of Smart Home Usage
Amazon also noted the evolving trends in smart home usage among Indian consumers. Over the past year, there has been a notable 37% increase in the utilization of Alexa for controlling smart fans and air conditioners, marking the highest growth rate among all smart home appliances. This trend underscores the growing reliance on voice-controlled automation for enhancing comfort and convenience in everyday living spaces.
