Introduction

Tiny House TEKITEKI-AN, crafted by 6lines studio, embodies a harmonious blend of tradition and sustainability. Nestled in the Satoyama village of Kamanuma, this compact abode offers a serene retreat amidst nature’s beauty.

Conceptual Inspiration

Inspired by the cyclical nature of water and the tranquility of a Japanese small house, TEKITEKI-AN symbolizes the essence of the surrounding environment. It serves as a testament to the interconnectedness of natural elements and human dwellings.

Location and Context

Situated in Kamanuma, a Satoyama village two hours away from Tokyo, TEKITEKI-AN is immersed in a landscape of farmlands and mountain forests. The village embodies a sustainable living ethos, maintained through community stewardship and urban-rural exchanges facilitated by organizations like ‘Small Earth.’

Design and Construction

Constructed as a detached room of an old house, TEKITEKI-AN was meticulously designed and built by 6lines studio. The roof, adorned with grass, offers access to panoramic views and serves as a platform for picking oranges. Recycled windows sourced from demolished village houses adorn the exterior, creating a mesmerizing play of light and shadow.

Collaborative Endeavors

The construction process, completed in six months without outsourcing, involved local craftsmen, students from the Tokyo Institute of Technology, and members of 6lines studio. Through collaborative efforts, resources obtained from petit works were repurposed into building materials, enhancing the beauty of Satoyama.

Sustainable Features

TEKITEKI-AN incorporates sustainable practices such as utilizing locally-sourced materials like tree branches, bamboo, and smoked rice husks for insulation. Its compact 3m x 3m layout, reminiscent of a traditional tea house, provides a versatile space for relaxation, work, and dining, seamlessly integrating with the vast network of Satoyama.

Conclusion

Tiny House TEKITEKI-AN stands as a testament to sustainable architecture and community collaboration. Rooted in tradition yet embracing modernity, it offers a glimpse into a harmonious way of living amidst nature’s abundance. As a beacon of sustainable design, TEKITEKI-AN inspires us to rethink our relationship with the environment and cherish the interconnectedness of all living beings.
