Situated in Kamanuma, a Satoyama village two hours away from Tokyo, TEKITEKI-AN is immersed in a landscape of farmlands and mountain forests. The village embodies a sustainable living ethos, maintained through community stewardship and urban-rural exchanges facilitated by organizations like ‘Small Earth.’

Design and Construction

Constructed as a detached room of an old house, TEKITEKI-AN was meticulously designed and built by 6lines studio. The roof, adorned with grass, offers access to panoramic views and serves as a platform for picking oranges. Recycled windows sourced from demolished village houses adorn the exterior, creating a mesmerizing play of light and shadow.

Collaborative Endeavors

The construction process, completed in six months without outsourcing, involved local craftsmen, students from the Tokyo Institute of Technology, and members of 6lines studio.
