Sustainable Luxury Bamboo Treehouses at Playa Viva by Atelier Nomadic

0

Introduction to the Project

Atelier Nomadic, a design studio under Nomadic Resorts, has unveiled a series of bamboo treehouses at Playa Viva, a renowned eco-resort committed to sustainability and regenerative practices. These treehouses epitomize the resort’s dedication to environmental stewardship while providing guests with a unique and immersive experience amidst nature.

Eco-Friendly Practices and Regenerative Initiatives

Playa Viva operates entirely off-grid, relying solely on solar power for energy generation. Moreover, the resort actively collaborates with the local community to promote health, education, and environmental conservation. As a founding member of the Regenerative Travel organization, Playa Viva spearheads initiatives like the La Tortuga Viva turtle sanctuary, furthering its commitment to sustainability.

Inspired Design: Bamboo Treehouses

The latest addition to the resort’s offerings comprises six bamboo treehouses, drawing inspiration from the majestic Mobula Rays that grace the shores of Playa Viva. Elevated on coconut palms overlooking the ocean, each treehouse features a master bedroom and an annex treehouse with a bathroom downstairs and a second bedroom or lounge upstairs.

Bioclimatic Design Principles

The treehouses are meticulously designed to harmonize with the natural environment. Large roof eaves provide shade from the sun and shelter from rainfall, while façade louvers facilitate natural cross ventilation. These bioclimatic features ensure optimal comfort for guests while minimizing energy consumption.

Sustainable Building Materials

Embracing the versatility of bamboo, the primary construction material for the treehouses, reflects the resort’s commitment to sustainability. From sturdy Guadua bamboo poles to flattened bamboo panels for ceilings, each component showcases the diverse applications of this rapidly renewable resource. Additionally, locally sourced Cumaru timber is used for flooring, further reducing the ecological footprint.

Immersive Nature Experience

In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, the treehouses offer guests a sanctuary to reconnect with nature and rejuvenate their spirits. Here, amidst the soothing sounds of the waves and the gentle rustle of palm leaves, visitors can unwind in hammocks suspended over the beach, indulging in the sights, sounds, and sensations of the natural world.

Conclusion: Redefining Luxury with Sustainability

The bamboo treehouses at Playa Viva exemplify a harmonious blend of luxury and sustainability. Through innovative design, eco-friendly practices, and a deep reverence for nature, Atelier Nomadic and Playa Viva have created an immersive haven where guests can unwind, recharge, and forge a deeper connection with the environment.
